meet the content creator who doesn't bullsh*t about helping gen z get hired

and her mega go-to resources list for finding internships and other early career roles

The Ninth Semester was born on February 29, 2020, after a Twitter thread of mine went viral with me sharing 10 post-interview questions to ask during your next interview.

When I wrote that, I was preparing for an interview with Twitter for their Summer 2020 Internship program. It was about 3 weeks since the sudden loss of my Dad and talks of a potential pandemic were going around but no one was taking it seriously. Including me. I was grieving yet still trying to secure an internship for the Summer to increase my chances of getting a full-time offer by graduation.

Even when the world is “ending”, first-generation students still need to think of their future.

After the thread went triple-platinum on the interwebs, I was inspired to turn it into an e-book, The Ultimate Guide to Acing Your Interview (use code officehours for a discount), which had tens of five-star reviews and has resulted in over 500+ book sales that converted to aiding 360+ individuals getting hired/accepted at Fortune 500 companies, MAANG companies, Big 4 accounting firms, and graduate schools.

That e-book turned into The Ninth Semester, which quickly grew into an audience of over 60,000 job-seeking college students and recent grads, and the hiring teams that recruit them.

I love storytelling. I went from writing Teen Wolf fan fiction on Wattpad to lifestyle blogging to this early career resources blog, so this newsletter allows me to combine my love for writing and share early career tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way - as well as sharing job opportunities for Gen Z professionals!

Most of my newsletters will be sectioned as follows:

  • Professor’s Choice: A roundup of internships, fellowships, paid conferences, campus ambassador programs, virtual recruitment events, and entry-level roles across a wide range of fields and industries that cross my timeline or search.

  • Class In Session: Tips, tricks, and resources to help you on your job searching journey, get through the application stage, ace your interviews, and everything else in between.

  • Ask Me Anything: Answering questions submitted by you all. Submit them here

And stories intertwined throughout it all.

For this first post, I’ll be sharing my top resources for finding early career roles in person and virtually. This list is BIG, JUICY, SUPER DUPER HELPFUL. You’re going to want to bookmark this email.

Class In Session

If you’ve ever asked me, “Where can I find early career roles?”, this mega list is for you.

Here are my go-to resources for finding internships and other early career roles:

Terms (search on Linkedin or Google):

⭐ "[insert field/major] internship"

ex: maternal health internship

⭐ "[insert field/major] [season] internship"

ex: marketing summer 2024 internship

ex: influencer marketing spring 2024 internships

⭐ "[insert field/major] [season] [location] internship

ex: public policy spring 2024 washington, d.c internship

*for entry-level roles, you can use the same search terms but replace “internship” and the seasons. Here is a list of common entry-level job titles to replace with

On Linkedin:

⭐ "[insert field/major] internship > filter by jobs or filter by posts > filter by "date posted"

I made a post about this that I’d recommend checking out.

⭐ Through posts tagged with hashtags such as:

#internship, #internships, #spring2024internship, #spring2024intern #summer2024internship #summer2024intern or hashtags for your industry (ex: #marketinginternship #computerscienceinternship)

You can change the years on these hashtags as you use these tips on your journey over time.

Places/Websites:

⭐On-Campus or Virtual Recruitment Events:

Whether on campus or virtual, most companies host recruitment events during the school year to discuss their internship/early career programs with students, meet potential candidates, and even hire students from these events!

You can find recruitment events through:

- Your Campus Career Centers,

- Word of Mouth

- Student orgs for your major/field of interest,

or posted on the Gen Z job boards ( For example, WayUp hosts a ton of virtual events weekly (and I manage them!!!), view them here

⭐ Company Early Career Pages

If you've ever wondered the following questions:

❓"Where can I apply for an internship with XYZ?"

❓"Does XYZ offer internships?"

❓"Are there [insert major] internships at XYZ?"

9 times out of 10, you can find your answer and more on your desired company's early career page. It'll direct you to FAQs, application tips, how to apply, etc.

🔎 Here are 4 phrases you can Google that'll direct you to what you're looking for:

1. Google "[insert company name] + [insert major] internships

2. Google "[insert company name] + early careers

3. Google "[insert company name] + internships

4. Google "[insert company name] + students and grads
